With its development of its grantmaker strategy, WhatWorks in 2010 is a valued resource for nonprofit benchmarking: connecting with nonprofits, funders and data aggregators to provide a place for organizations to share, learn and grow.  Please visit our Current Projects page to see the breadth of organizations and depth of projects WhatWorks has had the pleasure of assisting with building capacity in performance measurement. 

 

 2006


Starting in 2006, WhatWorks transitioned from an academic research center into a practical resource center, training nonprofit practitioners about using a common language to measure and achieve outcomes.

 

 

 

 

 

 2004


In 2004, Debra Natenshon was hired as chief executive officer to re-launch and lead The Center for What Works. As WhatWorks CEO, Debra brings extensive professional experience in organizational development, project management, sales and client services. She functions as a social entrepreneur engaged in creative problem-solving for the organization. In her executive role, Debra began to proactively build the organizational infrastructure, develop research, and create strategy and professional relationships to ensure successful outcomes.

WhatWorks
focused heavily on research and development for the subsequent two years.
 

 

 

 1994


In 1994, Jason Saul co-founded The Center for What Works to be a national nonprofit organization that promotes benchmarking and business practices in the nonprofit and public sector. He served as WhatWorks' board chair through 2006.
