Level I Overview/Program-Specific Workshops (face-to-face or via webinar)
You have a strategic direction...wondering how to measure your progress? If you've been involved in the process of developing the strategy for your nonprofit, or if you need to act on it and are not quite sure where to begin, this two hour workshop is for you. Articulating the results and success stories for your organization may be the difference between achieving your mission-based outcomes and simply having a lofty vision. Since effective performance measurement is a critical component of building a healthy and stable organization, increasing your comfort with various tools, tips, and strategies will help you recognize opportunities and solutions that might otherwise pass you by.
This overview is intended to offer an introduction to performance measurement and to help organizations understand the distinctions between planning, evaluation and benchmarking. It provides a demystifying explanation of some of the common strategic tools in use and explores how they might work together for greatest impact. The workshop also provides concrete ideas to assist participants in receiving buy-in within their organizations.

| - Jeannie Balanda, Executive Director for the East Village Youth Program |
Level II Workshops Towards Implementation
During the overview, WhatWorks covers an introduction to outcomes measurement, including a framework to articulate success and our body of research on common outcomes and indicators for a variety of nonprofit programs. This advanced workshop takes your measurement process to the next level by solidifying your outcomes, further articulating success, and learning how to implement your measurement process. The workshops covers data collection techniques, strategies for key stakeholder buy-in, and ideas for maintaining the process as a continuous learning opportunity.

| - Judith Hill, Grant Manager, Chicago Housing Authority |
Grant-Maker Workshops
Is your grant-making organization considering requiring or currently requiring grantees to report on their outcomes, but you're not quite sure how to guide grantees or what to do with the information you receive? You are not alone! WhatWorks grant-maker workshops focus on building the capacity of foundation program officers to better understand outcomes measurement. By the end of the session, you will gain an understanding of the basic concepts and be prepared to both answer questions from grantees and/or guide them to helpful resources.

The presenter was crystal clear and answered my questions intelligently. What I really appreciated was how much simpler and easy-to-understand WhatWorks' framework is compared to what we had developed ourselves. |
| - Kerstin Gorham, Program Officer, Northwest Area Foundation |
Customized Workshops
From September of 2007, The Center for What Works engaged in a professional services project with the League of American Orchestras (“the League”), to develop a performance measurement dashboard for the organization. WhatWorks developed the dashboard and process to help the League implement its strategic plan and to understand the efficiency and effectiveness of their programs and services delivered to their membership of over 950 orchestras across the country. We've highlighted a recent project to showcase a successful performance measurement effort, read on.

The [WhatWorks] framework imposes a discipline for clarifying goals, outcomes and strategies and focuses attention on what you are accomplishing as opposed to what your are doing.
